Launched in August 2021 our unique recycling programme gives new life to old water tanks by recycling end of life tanks and turning them into urban rainwater tanks. Aiding our commitment to sustainability and the circular economy of our tanks.
David Bailey, CEO of Bailey explains the beginnings of the programme came with the realisation that "Some of our earliest tanks are reaching the end of their optimal life, we recognise our responsibility to the customer, and the environment, to give new life to old tanks”
The journey begins with the customer calling up to book their collection process, then they cut up their old tank ready to be returned to our factory. Our process means we can take any brand of polyethylene plastic tank. Once collected, the plastic undergoes a cleaning process to remove contaminants, which are fed into an advanced mechanical recycling machine to break down the plastic into a powder. After this the plastic powder is ready be used again in the manufacturing process.
We use this recycled powder to produce non-potable 2000L and 3000L urban rainwater tanks, known as the catchy nickname ‘Recycled Ruth’ This tank is a milestone in plastic recycling as one of the first tanks on the NZ market made of 100% recycled materials.
David Bailey CEO “We’re extremely proud to offer tanks that are made from 100% recycled plastic, and we plan to expand the use of recycled plastic into other sizes”
Bailey has a strong commitment to sustainability with other recycling initiatives such as the use of post-consumer waste, such as milk and cleaning bottles, in the production of their Black Sanke drainage pipe; using up to 200,000 bottles per week.
We are proud to align with the principles of a circular economy and will continue to promote the responsible use and reuse of plastic materials. Our unique recycling program exemplifies a sustainable and innovative commitment to addressing both the plastic pollution crisis and the growing demand for water storage solutions. The transformative journey from waste to resource not only contributes to environmental conservation but also highlights the potential for creative solutions in building a more sustainable future.
