In this video, Resident Builder Peter Wolfkamp introduces the newest addition to the Bailey Slim Jim range - the 600L Slim Jim. This slimline tank continues the Bailey tradition of innovation, design and the provision of flexible water management solutions in all sizes.
The tank kit comes with everything needed to easily connect the tank to a nearby downpipe, including an in-pipe downpipe diverter, hoses, fittings, a hole saw, sealant tape, clips, and a tap.
Peter walks through the installation step-by-step, showcasing just how easy it is to start collecting rainwater for your home and garden.
Drilling the Connection Holes
The first step in the installation of your new slimline tank is to drill the connection holes in your downpipe and the tank. It is important to drill level holes in both the downpipe and tank at exactly the same height, as the connection acts as an inlet and an overflow. The kit includes a 35mm hole saw, which is used to drill both holes.
Install the Connections
The next step is to install the inlet tank connection. A long nose bulkhead is used for this, with the rubber seal placed on the inside of the tank. The kit also includes a flexible fitting for the downpipe. Designed to suit most downpipe sizes, it works by capturing rainwater flowing down the sides of the internal walls.
This rubber piece is inserted through the hole in the downpipe and secured with an outer valve, which also controls the flow into the tank.
Connecting the hose
A spigot is screwed onto the downpipe valve, and a flexible hose is run between the downpipe and the tank fitting. This hose should be cut to size to ensure it sits flat and level. Proper installation ensures that the tank can serve dual purposes: as an inlet for incoming water and an overflow outlet. A ball valve can then be attached to the bottom of the tank to control water access, using sealing tape wrapped counterclockwise for a tight connection.
